It was a double dose of big name prospects at Dove Valley today.
Alabama defensive tackle Marcell Dareus and LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson had their pre-draft visits with the Broncos, and it just so happened both defensive stars met with team personnel on the same day.
These two are used to competing against one another; they’re old SEC rivals after all, and just two of a handful of players in contention for Denver’s second overall draft pick.
Dareus served a two-game suspension in college for attending a 2010 Miami party hosted by an agent, but John Elway told The Denver Post the team isn’t worried about that:
“We talked to him about it today and he told us the whole deal. That is not a concern for us.â€
On the Defensive
Stop me if you’ve heard this before…
Team Da’Quan Bowers is once again refuting reports the Clemson defensive end has long-term knee damage.
Bowers’ agent Joe Flanagan sent an email to ESPN.com – his second – defending his client’s health. Flanagan claims reports of serious damage are untrue, and Bowers’ knee isn’t, or at least shouldn’t, be a concern. In his email, Flanagan writes:
“As to his progress and the feedback from the medical recheck, every team we’ve spoken to, including multiple GMs, has said that, overall, Da’Quan’s knee has shown good healing. [The knee] has continued to get better since the Combine, and, perhaps most importantly, showed absolutely no acute or remote ill-effects as a result of his April 1 workout….Bottom line: if it’s holding up from a pounding in April, it should clearly hold up in August.”
What is taking a pounding is Bowers’ draft stock. A No. 1 overall pick prospect a few months ago, he’s fallen considerably in recent weeks.  Bowers 15.5 sacks led the nation in 2010.
